Take Inspired Action AS IF…

Yesterday’s Inauguration Day an inspiring day! A new Administration, Kamala Harris taking office as the first female Vice President of the United States and the inspiring young leader, Amanda Gorman, whose words connected so deeply with our desires for a unified and peaceful country. These events were a great reminder of who we can become; to reflect on where we are now and where we want to be; and how we want to live our lives.

During this time of the pandemic, which started 10 months ago, has given us time to reflect on our lives and to think about what is important to us. In my conversations with friends, the most common words I heard were “I don’t want to go back to a life with …”. The way we lived our lives pre-pandemic was robotic and harried at the same time. We had so much on our plates, we didn’t have time to realize that that way of life wasn’t really serving us, yet we just powered through.

This time of being at home might have given you the time to think about WHAT you really want in your life and HOW you want to live it. My business coach talks about “taking action AS IF”… As if I’m already where I want to be. I am now living by this mantra and wanted to share it with you.

So, I invite you to consider the following questions:

  1. What if you started living your life now, the way you want it to be when the pandemic is over, what would you change? A life where we go to work in an office again, where the kids are back in school and they have their after-school activities and sports on the weekends, etc. Think about living your life AS IF we are past the pandemic.

  2. What are the things that you’re going to take away from these past 10 months, that you want to incorporate into your life going forward? The things that fulfill you, that inspire you and that are in alignment with the person you want to be.

  3. What are the things that you were saying “Yes” to, that are no longer serving you? And you will start saying “No” to?

I, personally, have enjoyed living a much slower paced life. I used to pack so much into my day that I was late for everything, running my kids from activity to activity and it stressed me out! I was always yelling at my kids because my biggest pet peeve is being late, yet I was always late. Now, I add buffer time to my commitments and in doing so, I feel calmer, more grounded and more present in the moment. The other thing that I have loved is the Zoom calls, to catch up with friends, or celebrate birthdays or milestones with family who live far away. Those times have been so precious and I almost can’t believe we didn’t think of doing it before. These are the things that I will prioritize now, so they become part of my routine, when life and the world around us opens up again.

So, start living your life AS IF it’s six or twelve months from now. What are the things that you want to bring into that life, that routine, that schedule? Start incorporating them now so that when the time comes, it’s your norm, it’s just what you do.

As I leave you with these thoughts, I want to share with you that I will be hosting a workshop to dive deeper into how you can continue to make small changes in your life that have a big impact towards living your best life. Stay tuned for the details!
