What Passions Are You Ready to Start Reclaiming?
I spent many years, putting my own desires and passions on the back burner. One thing I used to love to do is photography. When we lived in New York, I was so excited, I bought a new digital SLR camera and I signed up for a photography course.
At the time, I was pregnant with my first daughter and the course was scheduled to finish before my due date. I was thoroughly enjoying this course, learning how to use a “real” camera, taking really cool photos all over New York City, when my water broke and my baby arrived 5 weeks early! Once our baby arrived, I didn’t get to finish my course, I have since forgotten everything I learned, and I have never signed up for another course.
This is one of many passions that I gave up to take care of my family. I know I am not alone in this. Countless women and mothers put their wants, needs, desires and passions aside, to take care of their loved ones - their children, their partner, their parents. It’s what we do.
Since having kids, most of us put our passions and priorities aside. Over the years, we have forgotten about ourselves and the things that we want. The pandemic has exasperated this because we are so busy taking care of everyone else, the house, cooking, integrating work into our home lives, the list goes on and on. But unless we start doing the things that we love, to fill up our own cups, we are not going to be able to bring our best selves to the ones we love.
